Shirley Ann Collins, the lifelong resident of the Davenport community, will be remembered Friday, October 19, 2012, at 6:30 p.m. in the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, 614 Main Street, downtown Davenport. Visitation with friends and family will begin at 3:30 p.m. until the time of service.
Shirley Collins 76, died peacefully Tuesday, October 16, 2012, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf. Loved ones surrounded her as she left at age 65. Based on her wishes, the family has made plans for her cremation.
Shirley Ann Bailey was born June 6, 1947, in Davenport to John and Esther (Petersen) Bailey. A proud alumna from Assumption High School’s Class of 1965, Shirley grew up with a strong sense of community and dedication to family. Shirley spent over 23 years in property control at Rock Island Integrated Services. She is remembered fondly for her kindness, dedication, and reliability to her colleagues and friends.
Hobbies and Passion for Family:
Shirley was very vibrant and had many interests. She loved to be lost in reading a book, as well as tending a garden with much pride. A very good knitter, her knitted things are treasures for all time to the family. However most important is that she was dedicated totally to her family, and her grandchildren, with whom she shared so many precious moments.
Family and Heritage
Two daughters, Sheila Daily of Bettendorf and Sarah Nyenhuis of Davenport, continue Shirley’s legacy. Nothing in her life warmed Shirley’s heart more than her grandkids-Jennifer Collins, Jeffery Nipper, Jaide Nipper, Jordan Knox, Jared Daily, Jamissen Daily, Andrew Nyenhuis, and Zachary Nyenhuis. Survived by her siblings Tom Bailey, Ann Sabel, Paul Bailey, Neil Bailey, Bridget Delap, Don Bailey, Ruth Roesler, Jim Bailey, and her best friend Kathleen Miller. She joins in eternal rest her parents and sisters, Monica Bailey and Carol Arpy.
Celebration of Life and Memorial Donations
A memorial service will be a celebration of Shirley’s life and the impact she had on those surrounding her. Shirley made it clear that she wished not to have flowers at her funeral but would instead like for her family to make donations to a charity of their choice in her honour.
Shirley Collins’s legacy is love, resilience, and community. As the family, friends, and neighbours continue to celebrate her memory, they remember a remarkable woman who made a long-lasting impression on everyone she touched.
